About C&C

Here at Comics and Culture you will find articles, essays, and reviews that take a highbrow look at what has so long been seen as a lowbrow medium: comic books. As a “Bam! Pow!” good, old-fashioned, super-hero-comic-book fan and a meddling semi-academic to boot, I had to do something, to carve out at least one area where we can ponder the philisophical implications of Uncle Ben’s message to Peter Parker, the changing face of heroes based on cultural movements, and maybe even if Gloria Steinem would think it’s all right for Playboy to use Wonder Woman’s image on it’s cover…

While I am technically the “author” of this blog and many of the blog posts will be my own articles and musings, I will also happily link to outside articles and works on the same subjects. This may be my blog, but hopefully–like a really great classrom– ideas will flow freely and the conversations will belong to us all.

Welcome to C&C,

Lauren Karp
